Woodfin Planning Board Meeting Recap – February 7, 2023
The Woodfin Planning Board convened on February 7, 2023, with a focused agenda primarily revolving around the ongoing review of the Robin Hood project. The meeting was attended by board members, staff representatives (Ricky), and legal counsel for HS Robin Hood (Jesse Swords), as well as concerned residents, including Brett Killian. The meeting began with the straightforward approval of both the day’s agenda and the minutes from the previous meeting, setting a procedural tone for the session.
The central discussion of the evening centered on the Robin Hood project, currently undergoing review by the Board of Adjustment. Staff recommended postponing any Planning Board consideration of the project until April 4th, a recommendation supported by Jesse Swords, attorney for HS Robin Hood. This postponement is intended to allow the Board of Adjustment to complete its proceedings, avoiding potential overlap and ensuring a comprehensive review. A significant portion of the discussion was dedicated to addressing concerns about achieving a quorum for the April 4th meeting, as that date falls during spring break. Board members acknowledged this potential challenge and discussed possible solutions, including coordinating with the town to potentially schedule a special meeting if necessary. Ultimately, the Planning Board voted unanimously to continue the ministerial review for the Robin Hood project until April 4th, pending confirmation of a quorum.
During public comment, Brett Killian, a Woodfin resident and property owner, voiced his support for the postponement. He emphasized that the ongoing review by the Board of Adjustment should be allowed to conclude before the Planning Board considers the project, citing potential delays and complexities. Jesse Swords echoed this sentiment, expressing optimism that the Board of Adjustment's review will soon provide clarity on the project. The board members listened attentively to both perspectives, demonstrating a commitment to balancing expediency with due process.
Looking ahead, the Planning Board has several key action items. The Robin Hood project review is tentatively scheduled for April 4th, with a focus on ensuring sufficient attendance to establish a quorum. Staff member Ricky will continue to monitor the Board of Adjustment’s proceedings and provide updates to the Planning Board. Furthermore, discussions will continue regarding contingency plans for addressing potential quorum issues related to spring break. This meeting underscored the importance of inter-agency coordination and a measured approach when navigating complex development reviews, ensuring that all relevant processes are completed thoroughly. Residents can expect further updates on the Robin Hood project as the Board of Adjustment’s review progresses and the April 4th meeting approaches.
