The Black Mountain Historic Preservation Commission will meet on January 21st at 6:00 PM in the Town Hall Council Chambers to review several projects impacting historic areas of town. The main focus will be on approving or denying proposals for changes to buildings within the historic district, including repainting at 106 Sutton Avenue, awning replacement at 107 W State Street, and new signage for a restaurant at 117 Cherry Street – all of which have already received preliminary approval from town staff.

During the meeting, commissioners will also discuss and vote on standard procedural items like adopting the agenda and approving minutes from a previous meeting. A key discussion point will be ensuring compliance with state regulations through training opportunities for commission members and staff, a requirement of the Certified Local Government program. Finally, there will be an update on staffing changes within the Historic Preservation Commission, with Russell Cate taking on a more prominent role.

Citizens interested in preserving Black Mountain's historic character are encouraged to attend or watch the meeting, as decisions made will directly impact the appearance and preservation of historic buildings in our community. More detailed information can be found on the Town of Black Mountain website at www.townofblackmountain.org under "Government" and then "Town Council."
