Woodfin Planning Board of Adjustment Meeting Recap – April 7, 2026
The Woodfin Planning Board of Adjustment convened its regular meeting on April 7, 2026, focusing primarily on board member appointments and the status of several pending zoning requests. This meeting, overseen by the Woodfin Town Council, provided updates on key planning matters impacting the community. Notably, there was no public comment received during this meeting.
A significant portion of the meeting centered around renewing the terms of existing board members, a necessary step following a recent reconstitution of both the Planning and Adjustment Boards. Chris Daroni, V. Hahn, and Ricky Hayes (the current Chair) were all unanimously reappointed to their positions, demonstrating strong support from the board. In addition, Larry was appointed as the new Vice Chair, filling a vacancy previously held by Scott, further solidifying the board’s leadership structure. The Board approved both the agenda and minutes from their previous meeting in February, ensuring a smooth progression of business.
Beyond personnel matters, the Board addressed several ongoing zoning applications. A rezoning request concerning a property at 9999 Weaverville Road (formerly known as Old Weaverville Road) was continued until the May meeting. The applicant is seeking to rezone a 0.19-acre parcel from Community Shopping (CS) to Residential 7 (R7). This continuance allows the applicant time to refine their proposal, and residents can expect further discussion on this matter at the May meeting. Another application concerning the Riverside Drive/Craggy Bridge area will also be revisited in May, with a revised proposal seeking a CZ zoning designation. The Chair committed to contacting a concerned neighbor regarding this project and scheduling a meeting, ensuring community voices are heard.
Looking ahead, the Board discussed opportunities for professional development. Mike Valentine announced upcoming training workshops offered by the School of Government in Chapel Hill, including a session on rezoning legislative zoning decisions. Board members were strongly encouraged to participate, with the town covering registration costs for those who volunteer. The Chair highlighted that the May meeting will be particularly busy, with multiple items on the agenda and emphasized the importance of board members being mindful of potential conflicts. Finally, the Chair will re-advertise and repost the Craggy Bridge/Riverside Drive rezoning application to ensure maximum transparency.
What’s Next & Why It Matters: Residents can anticipate further discussion on the Weaverville Road rezoning proposal at the May meeting. The Board’s recommendations regarding the reappointments will be forwarded to the Woodfin Town Council for final approval. The upcoming training opportunities represent a commitment to ensuring board members are well-equipped to handle complex planning decisions, ultimately benefiting the entire Woodfin community.
