Woodfin PACE Committee Meeting Recap – May 13, 2026

The Woodfin PACE (Parks, Arts, Community & Environment) Committee held a productive meeting on May 13, 2026, focusing on ongoing projects and the development of new policies to enhance our community. The meeting included updates from various initiatives, discussions on key issues facing Woodfin, and several important decisions impacting residents. Notably, three committee members – Coral, Adam, and Chris – will be departing from their roles, marking a transition for the committee.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to refining a proposed Special Events Policy, aiming to provide clear guidelines for event organizers while ensuring the safety and well-being of Woodfin residents. The committee agreed that events seeking to serve alcohol will require approval from the Town Council, and larger gatherings (over 300 attendees) will necessitate emergency services. A crucial addition was the "Good Neighbor" notification requirement for larger events, designed to promote transparency and communication with affected property owners. The policy also outlines fees, damage deposits, and responsible party designations for all events, ensuring accountability. In a celebratory moment, the committee formally endorsed "Lenny's Law," making Woodfin the first municipality to support this initiative focused on bicycle safety zones.

Beyond policy discussions, the committee received a glowing update from Katie regarding the Woodfin Community Garden. All 12 raised beds are currently rented, demonstrating strong community interest and engagement. The garden's success is further highlighted by consistent volunteer activity and generous donations, including a new solar dehydrator. A rain garden project is underway, with an engaging workshop planned for June 6th – a testament to the community's commitment to environmental sustainability. The committee also reviewed progress on traffic calming measures, discussing a potential adjustment to the speed limit threshold and exploring options for improved signage along key corridors like Riverside Drive and Weaverville Road. Finally, contracts were approved for FEMA-related repairs and upgrades to Silverline Park, including a much-needed restroom facility. Construction is expected to commence shortly, improving park amenities for all residents.

There were no public comments during this meeting; however, committee members actively shared their experiences and suggestions, contributing to a robust discussion about traffic calming and event policies. The committee also discussed the possibility of establishing a zip code for Woodfin, recognizing its potential benefits for residents.

Looking ahead, Adrian will revise the Special Events Policy incorporating committee feedback and circulate a final draft for review. Town staff will investigate traffic calming signage options, including costs and potential locations. Residents are encouraged to spread the word about open positions on both the PACE Committee and the Planning Board, ensuring continued community involvement in local government. The committee’s next meeting is scheduled for May 26th, where they will discuss the Woodfin-Weaverville feasibility study. This meeting demonstrated a strong commitment from the PACE Committee to address community needs, enhance quality of life, and ensure Woodfin remains a vibrant and thriving place to live.
