Event Preview
The Asheville City Board of Education will hold a work session on June 2, 2025, primarily focused on evaluating the condition of school facilities and finalizing the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Discussions will center around proposals from several firms conducting feasibility studies for school improvements, and the Board will be making a decision on which firm(s) to select. Additionally, they will be reviewing and considering the FY 26 budget, including potential adjustments to state salary supplements, and discussing the use of school buses for summer programs.
Several key decisions are expected during this meeting that could impact students, families, and the community. The Board will vote on the facility study selection, which will shape future school improvements, and will be considering and approving the FY 26 budget, which determines funding for schools and programs. Consent agenda items, including policy approvals and contracts, will also be voted on, unless individual items are requested for separate discussion. Citizens interested in the future of Asheville’s schools and budget priorities are encouraged to attend or view the meeting online, which will be available with Spanish interpretation.
Following this work session, the Board will address student fees and facility use fees at their regular meeting on June 9th. The agenda also includes approval of the Academically Gifted (AIG) Plan for 2025-2028 and a review of proposed changes to policies regarding student progress evaluation. The full meeting schedule and additional details are available on the Board of Education website.
