The Buncombe County Board of Commissioners meeting on July 16th will cover a wide range of topics impacting our community. Discussions are expected regarding initiatives like the Leading with Race Summit and the Community Reparations Commission, along with updates on internal audits and improvements to our public alert system. A presentation will also detail findings from a study examining fairness in property assessments, which could lead to changes in how properties are valued.
A significant portion of the meeting will focus on budget decisions, including final approval of the FY2025 budget and adjustments to funding for COVID recovery, opioid settlement funds, and various grant programs. Commissioners will also consider appointments to several advisory boards and hold a public hearing regarding a zoning change request on Yates Avenue. A final vote will be taken on the appointment of Robb Hartman as Internal Audit Director.
Several ongoing initiatives require continued attention, including a request to extend the Community Reparations Commission, which is pending a decision from Asheville City Council. The Board will also be receiving updates on the Coxe Avenue development solicitation and beginning implementation of recommendations from the Assessment Equity Study. Citizens interested in these topics, or those wanting to learn more about the County’s budget and ongoing programs, are encouraged to attend or watch the meeting.
