The Burke County Animal Advisory Board will meet on March 13th to discuss a range of topics related to animal welfare in our community. A significant portion of the meeting will be dedicated to reviewing and potentially revising the county's Animal Ordinance, with a focus on areas like neglect, dangerous dogs, and other crucial aspects of animal protection. Board members will also provide updates on several ongoing cases involving animal cruelty and neglect, including matters related to Diane Mangrum, Julie Sherrill, a recent hoarding case, and past cruelty investigations.

A key outcome of this meeting will be the board's recommendations for changes to the Animal Ordinance, which they plan to present to county leadership. Citizens interested in animal welfare and how our local ordinances impact pets and their owners should pay attention to this discussion. The board will also review monthly statistics on animal services, including intake numbers, adoptions, and spay/neuter rates, providing a snapshot of the current animal welfare landscape in Burke County.

Finally, the board will briefly discuss staffing needs for Animal Services, progress on a new shelter project, and reports from the Foundation and Animal Enforcement. The next meeting is scheduled for April 10th, providing an opportunity to see how these discussions progress.
