Recap of December 8, 2025 Agenda Review Meeting
On December 8, 2025, the government held a meeting focused on reviewing feedback from the recent fall recreational season and planning for future improvements to community facilities. This meeting, part of a series of regular meetings, involved discussion among council members and valuable input from residents. The meeting aimed to gather insights for enhancing recreational opportunities within Fletcher and the broader surrounding region, as a significant portion of participants (approximately 50%) come from areas outside Fletcher itself.
A central theme throughout the meeting was addressing feedback on the fall recreational season. Residents raised concerns about parking challenges, particularly during evening games when usage is high and impacts umpire arrival times. Field conditions, especially at fields outside of Fletcher’s jurisdiction, were also a point of discussion, as was the consistency and variety offered at Roy's concession stand. The functionality of existing scoreboards, which are currently not working properly, was another key concern raised by attendees. While the possibility of installing field lighting was considered, discussions centered on potential grant opportunities to fund such a project.
The council made several key decisions during the meeting, although no formal votes were taken. Most notably, they agreed to launch a comprehensive community survey designed to gather broader perspectives on the recreational season and solicit recommendations for improvements. They also approved sending out reminders about the upcoming municipal election filing period via the Blackboard calling system, a decision that followed some initial debate.
Community input was a significant component of the meeting. Several residents shared their experiences and suggestions, praising Fairview’s concession stand as a positive example while emphasizing the importance of consistent food options for families attending games. A resident suggested exploring corporate sponsorships to help fund improvements like batting cages and scoreboards, a suggestion that resonated with the council. Concerns about consistent field maintenance, particularly line marking for Saturday morning games, were also voiced.
Looking ahead, several action items have been identified to address the concerns and suggestions raised. The council will launch a community survey, discuss potential menu changes and consistency of service with concession stand operator Roy, investigate the scoreboard issues, and explore grant opportunities for field lighting. A sponsorship drive will be initiated to support improvements like batting cages, and the survey results will be shared directly with Roy. Additionally, communication is planned with the baseball league regarding volunteer opportunities and council members will review project requests for the upcoming Capital Improvement Plan.
This meeting highlighted the community’s strong support for recreational programs and underscored Fletcher's role in providing these services to a wider regional area. Addressing the identified challenges, particularly regarding parking, field maintenance, and concession stand consistency, will be crucial to ensuring a positive recreational experience for all participants. Residents can expect further engagement through the upcoming community survey, providing an opportunity to directly shape future recreational offerings.
