Fletcher Town Council Agenda Review Meeting Recap – December 1, 2025
On December 1, 2025, the Fletcher Town Council held an Agenda Review meeting to discuss upcoming priorities and address key issues facing our community. The meeting, attended by all council members, focused on planning board vacancies, the National Cane Creek Greenway plan, stormwater grant program revisions, and preparations for the upcoming budget process. While there were no public comments during the designated period, council members shared brief updates and engaged in robust discussions on several important topics.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to filling vacancies on the Planning Board, following the resignation of George Clayton and the expiration of another member's term. The council interviewed three candidates: Julia Fogle, Jacob Comper, and Michael Tancredi. Ms. Fogle highlighted her family business experience and desire to contribute to the town's growth, while Mr. Comper, a professional planner with extensive regional experience, emphasized his expertise in zoning and development. Mr. Tancredi, an architect, impressed the council with his pragmatic approach and familiarity with Fletcher’s "Heart of Fletcher" overlay plan, expressing a commitment to preserving the town's heritage. The council ultimately decided to postpone appointments until their next meeting, allowing them time for further consideration.
Beyond the Planning Board vacancies, discussions centered on the National Cane Creek Greenway plan. Recognizing budget constraints, the council agreed to prioritize sections 3 and 4 of the project – connecting from the park to a parking area off Rockwell Drive – for initial construction. A crucial element of this discussion involved security considerations, with the council exploring options like improved lighting and a call box system for the Rockwell Drive parking area. Further, minor revisions to the stormwater grant program guidelines were approved, clarifying that an engineer's design may be required in some cases to ensure projects meet established standards.
Looking ahead, the council reviewed the timeline for the upcoming budget process, marking key dates including a kickoff meeting on January 12th and a full-day budget workshop on March 24th. Residents are encouraged to mark their calendars for these important sessions, which will shape the town's financial priorities for the coming year. Finally, Council member Jim Miller raised concerns about a proposed bakery development and its potential impact on traffic along East Presley Hill. The council directed the developer to explore alternative access points to minimize disruption for residents, demonstrating a commitment to addressing community concerns.
What's Next?
- The council will announce appointments to the Planning Board at their next meeting.
- The developer of the new bakery will be exploring alternative access points based on council feedback.
- Staff is finalizing bid packets for the Coppola Street Resurfacing Project.
- Don't miss "Christmas in the Park" on Saturday, December 6th!
This meeting highlighted ongoing efforts to plan for Fletcher's future growth while preserving its unique character. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and participate in upcoming budget discussions, as these decisions will directly impact our community.
