Event Preview

The upcoming Town Council meeting on June 10th will cover a wide range of topics impacting Black Mountain. Discussions are expected regarding the annual report from Recreation & Parks, potential updates to alcohol beverage regulations and parade/festival guidelines, and a feasibility study for connecting trails in the Ridgecrest area. The council will also consider a Memorandum of Understanding and fundraising request from the Friends of the Community Garden, as well as discuss an insecticide policy for town facilities.

Several key decisions are on the agenda that may affect residents. The council will vote on approving a contract for part-time code enforcement services, and heard the presentation of a study outlining the feasibility of connecting trails. Notably, they voted against establishing a downtown social district and agreed to return grant funds for the proposed public Wi-Fi project. Finally, a significant item is the approval of an agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation for the replacement of the Ninth Street Bridge, a project that will impact traffic flow and infrastructure within the community.

For those interested in learning more, a public hearing regarding the FY24-25 budget is scheduled for June 6th. The council also plans to revisit the discussion on a downtown social district at a later date, and will be conducting a survey of businesses and citizens regarding the proposed social district. Information on all agenda items, including supporting documents, is available on the town's website.
