The Historic Preservation Commission will meet on May 15th at 6:00 PM in Town Hall to discuss guidelines for new construction and renovations within Black Mountain’s historic districts. The meeting will primarily focus on a draft of Chapter 4, which outlines detailed design principles and standards covering everything from building scale and materials to porch designs and accessory structures. This chapter aims to ensure that any new development complements and preserves the unique historic character of our town.
A key item for discussion will be how these new design standards apply to ongoing projects, including a proposed multi-purpose building on Cherry Street and a rooftop deck at My Father’s Pizza. While formal votes weren't taken at the previous meeting, the Commission expressed support for these projects contingent on adherence to historic guidelines. Citizens are encouraged to attend the May 15th meeting, as these standards will significantly impact future development within our historic areas.
Finally, the Commission approved minor work projects like painting and awning repairs at existing properties. The full agenda is posted, and citizens are asked to notify Jennifer Tipton if they anticipate being unable to attend the meeting.
