Event Preview
The Active Mobility Commission and Town Council will meet on July 21, 2026, with a primary focus on evaluating a proposed pedestrian trail connector between Ingles grocery store and the YMCA. Both bodies will conduct a field trip to assess this potential trail, which aims to improve pedestrian access within the community. The Active Mobility Commission will also discuss ongoing projects like improvements at Veteran’s Park and updates on the In-the-Oaks Trail, as well as consider options for pedestrian safety campaigns and bear deterrents along trails.
During the meeting, both groups will vote on adopting their respective agendas and minutes from previous meetings. The Active Mobility Commission is also expected to finalize a name for the proposed trail project, currently under consideration as "Pedestrian Corridors." Residents interested in pedestrian access and safety improvements are encouraged to attend the meeting or review the agenda materials available on the Town of Black Mountain website.
Finally, town staff will be following up on a previous request to coordinate with the Greenways & Trails Committee and Fonta Flora Trail Group regarding trail planning, as well as addressing upcoming openings on the Active Mobility Commission.
