The Buncombe County Board of Commissioners will hold a meeting on September 15th, primarily addressing concerns about increasing bear activity in the county and providing updates on solid waste management and economic development. Staff will present information from the Wildlife Resources Commission regarding bear safety, as well as details on a new litter cleanup initiative and progress with the Helene recovery efforts.

A key item for public attention is an upcoming public hearing scheduled for October 6th, where the Board will consider a proposed economic development agreement and incentives for East Fork Pottery, a local manufacturer. Commissioners will also need to authorize grant agreements related to sidewalk improvements in Swannanoa, a project funded by external grants.

Following the September 15th briefing, staff will continue exploring options to address bear activity, including potential ordinances and expanding waste management programs. Residents may also want to be aware of a future discussion in October regarding potential rate adjustments for Fiber Communications Corp (FCC).
