Event Preview

The Buncombe County Board of Commissioners will convene on October 20, 2026, to discuss several key initiatives impacting the community. The meeting will feature updates on ongoing projects including the FCC rate discussion, a quarterly update from the Continuum of Care, and progress on the Buncombe County Pedestrian Plan. Commissioners will also receive a detailed presentation regarding the Swannanoa Small Area and Resilience Plan, which incorporates feedback from over 1,800 residents.

A significant focus will be on the Buncombe County Pedestrian Plan, aimed at improving safety and accessibility for pedestrians throughout the county. The plan prioritizes improvements along several major roadways, with a final draft expected for Board review in December. The Swannanoa Small Area and Resilience Plan, developed through extensive community engagement, outlines actions related to disaster mitigation, conservation, and affordable housing, and is currently under review by the Planning Board.

The meeting will also include a review of minutes from a previous meeting held on September 16, 2026. An open discussion period will follow the presentations, providing an opportunity for Commissioners to address any outstanding matters.
