Fletcher Town Council Meeting Recap – March 10, 2025: Focus on Recovery, Future Markets & Community Support

The Fletcher Town Council convened on March 10, 2025, for a meeting focused on ongoing recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene, plans for future town initiatives like a farmer’s market, and recognizing the vital contributions of local organizations. The meeting included public comment, presentations from community groups, and discussions on several key topics impacting Fletcher residents.

A significant portion of the meeting centered around recovery from Hurricane Helene, which impacted the town earlier this year. The Council received an update on ongoing repairs to public facilities including ball fields, a multi-use court, and the dog park. Bids are currently being accepted for these repairs, alongside upgrades to electrical panels. The town is collaborating with the county on debris removal efforts, focusing initially on vegetative debris while working through logistics for construction and demolition waste. Addressing properties that sustained substantial damage during the storm, ensuring compliance with floodplain regulations, remains a priority and is being managed in conjunction with McGill Associates who are conducting an updated wetlands delineation and permitting analysis for the town center property.

Beyond recovery efforts, the Council made a key decision regarding the establishment of a farmer’s market. After considering various locations, the Council unanimously approved utilizing the area near Public Works and Green Parks & Rec as the market's location, citing cost-effectiveness and traffic concerns over using a park. Residents can expect vendor packets to be released later this month, marking an exciting step towards bringing fresh produce and local goods directly to the community.

The Council also acknowledged and appreciated the work of Stand Tall, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting local law enforcement. Representatives from Stand Tall presented their contributions, including approximately $13,000 in equipment to the Fletcher Police Department and involvement in initiatives like "Shop with a Hero." The Council agreed to explore ways to promote Stand Tall within the town, potentially through the town newsletter.

Finally, discussions were held regarding potential retail opportunities for the "Car Twice Good" property on 25 and exploring options for a more formal parking enforcement system to address growing concerns in developing areas. The Town Manager will work with Police Chief Miller to evaluate options for a parking enforcement system and present recommendations to the Council.

Looking Ahead: The Council will hold a budget retreat on Tuesday, March 18th at 8:00 AM. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about these ongoing initiatives and future town developments by visiting the town website or contacting the Town Manager's office.

This meeting demonstrated the Council’s commitment to addressing immediate needs following Hurricane Helene while simultaneously planning for future growth and community engagement.
